This beginner-friendly workshop introduces the art of handbuilding a traditional chawan (Japanese tea bowl). Using the pinching technique, participants will shape and refine one or two bowls over two consecutive days.
An optional glazing session is available once the pieces have been bisque-fired.
If the glazing course is not booked, the bowls will be finished with a simple semi-transparent white glaze.
Day 1 – Introduction & Forming (3hour)
• Introduction to the Japanese chawan – history, function, and aesthetics
• Demonstration and practice of the pinching technique to create the basic form of the chawan
Day 2 – Carving & Finishing (3hour)
• Working on the leather-hard bowls: refining the shape, carving surface details, and modeling/attaching a foot (kodai)
Optional: Day 3 – Glazing Session +45€
• Introduction to glaze basics, glazing demonstration, and hands-on glazing of your own bowls
